Selecting your Windows PC driver for USB GUI and firmware update (p.19)

Make sure to install the right Silabs driver for Windows PC based on your Windows OS version and USB port version.

• If you are using Windows 10, the Silabs Driver 4.0.0 is mandatory. However, Silabs driver 4.0.0 only has partial support for USB3.0 on Win8 and previous Windows versions, so you might prefer the 3.9.2 in such case.
• If you are using Windows XP, the Silabs Driver 3.9.2 is mandatory. It is recommended to try the 4.0.0 version first on any Windows version other than XP.
• For installation simply download, unzip and run the .EXE file. Silabs 3.9.2: run USBXpressInstaller.exe. Silabs 4.0.0: USBXpressInstaller_x86.exe for 32bit or USBXpressInstaller_x64.exe for 64bit.
• Both the firmware updater and the GUI utility provide 2 directories labelled per driver version — make sure to use the right directory matching your driver version. Example: if you installed the 3.9.2 driver, use the 3.9.2 directory to run the firmware update or the GUI utility.
• You can install or remove any driver at any time: Control Panel > Program > Remove Software.

Updating your Integral 2 firmware with a Windows PC (p.20–23)

The Integral 2 firmware updater is compatible with all Windows from Win XP to Win 10. Download the latest firmware package and extract it — you get a directory with the FPGA updater, the MCU updater, the GUI and a ReadMeFirst.txt.

You will have to run both Update FPGA and Update MCU to successfully upgrade your Integral 2 unit. You can start with either of them; there is no particular order to respect. However, you might prefer to start with the MCU update as it does not require a mandatory power cycle. FPGA update takes about 50s while the MCU update takes less than 5s.

FPGA update

1. Double-click the Integral 2 FPGA executable (if needed, right-click and select Run as Administrator).
2. Click Update Firmware. Flashing time is around 50 seconds. Do not disconnect your device while the upgrade process is running.
3. Once completed you hear a Windows notification sound and a “FLASH update ok” window pops up. Click OK.
4. Power cycle the Integral 2. After power up, wait around 15 seconds — the unit will reconfigure and start; you won't see any light during that time. This is only valid for any FPGA update.

MCU update

1. Double-click the UpdateMCU executable (if needed, right-click and select Run as Administrator).
2. Click Update Firmware. Flashing time is less than 5 seconds.
3. Once completed you hear a Windows notification sound and a “Successfully Loaded Image” window pops up. Click OK — the updater then reports “Firmware update ok - You must power cycle your unit”.

Congratulations, you have successfully updated both the MCU and FPGA and your unit is now ready to operate with the benefits from the latest software additions. If you see a custom text message on the OSD after flashing, see the RST + INP combo.

Failed update: unit shows as USBBOOT

Some users report the Integral 2 as USBBOOT USBXPRESS under Windows after a firmware update attempt. USBBOOT means the Integral 2 is in the bootloader state, waiting for the actual firmware — the MCU firmware update failed, was not launched properly, or was cut off in between. The device is left in the bootloader ready to accept the firmware update again. Make sure the PC Windows GUI is closed (not running), unplug/replug the Integral 2, eventually reboot your computer, and launch the firmware update again. Make sure you are using the right Silabs driver for your Windows version and USB port version in use.
