PlayStation 5 & PS4 with the Integral 2

A PlayStation is one of the most common sources we see in front of an Integral 2: a modern HDCP-protected 4K/HDR console meeting an older projector, AVR or second display. Here is exactly how to set it up, and when the Integral 2 is (and is not) the right fix.

Why put an Integral 2 behind a PlayStation?

HDCP errors and black screens: PS5 and PS4 protect their output with HDCP. Feed the console through the Integral 2 and its HDCP Doctor decrypts the input and re-encrypts each output independently (1.4 on both ports, 2.2 on the top port), so an older HDCP 1.4-only AVR or projector keeps working.
Play 4K/HDR on the big screen, stream or capture in 1080p: in Splitter mode both outputs carry the console; the downscale port can deliver 1080p while your main display keeps full UHD/HDR.
An older 1080p projector next to a 4K TV: Auto Scaling senses each connected display and feeds both at their maximum — no more swapping cables or losing HDR on the TV because the projector is connected too.

Setup steps

Connect the PlayStation to one of the Integral 2's HDMI inputs, and your display(s) to the outputs. An HDCP 1.x-only display or AVR goes on the TOP (Downscale) output.
Set the HDCP slide switch to the middle position (HDCP Auto / GUI) — the Integral 2 then dynamically guarantees a working signal on both outputs.
Set the Scale switch to Auto Scaling so each output is fed at the connected display's maximum capabilities.
Leave the EDID switch on Custom Use / BT (default table: 4K60 4:4:4 600MHz HDR BT2020 with full audio) or use Automix when two very different displays are connected.
On the console, check the video output settings: the PlayStation reads the EDID the Integral 2 presents and picks the best matching format automatically. If a change does not take, short-press RESET on the Integral 2 to issue a Hot Plug event so the console re-negotiates.

PS5 notes: 4K120 and VRR

The Integral 2 is an 18Gbps (600MHz) device. Within that bandwidth it passes 4K60 4:4:4 8-bit, 4K60 4:2:2 12-bit and 4K120 4:2:0 8-bit. A PS5 set to full HDMI 2.1 formats (4K120 at higher chroma, 8K, 40Gbps) exceeds 18Gbps — for those formats, connect the PS5 to the TV directly and use the Integral 2 in the chain that needs fixing or splitting. For 4K60 HDR gaming and movie playback, which is what the vast majority of PS5/PS4 content uses, the Integral 2 passes the full signal untouched.
